Prepare your trip

Do I need a visa for Senegal?

The answer depends on passport nationality, travel document, purpose and length of stay.

Short answer

Senegal’s ministry publishes a list of nationalities exempt from a visa for stays of less than three months, including France, Canada, the UK and the United States. This exemption does not automatically cover every travel document or purpose. Country of residence alone does not determine the rule. Consult the official source for your passport and circumstances.

Who does this apply to?

These notes help prepare a short stay. Refugee travel documents, emergency documents, work and study require specific checks with the relevant Senegalese representation. “Less than three months” should not automatically be replaced with “90 days”. For a longer stay, confirm the procedure before departure.

Passport and arrival documents

The Senegalese portal mentions at least six months of validity for documents covered by its exemption. French advice specifies more than six months for French nationals on short stays; UK advice specifies six months after arrival. Check the exact rule for your document. Also prepare your stay address and evidence requested by your official source; UK guidance lists onward or return travel and arranged accommodation.

E-visa and official procedure

No general e-visa process has been confirmed in the sources selected for this V1. This does not establish that no electronic procedure exists for a particular case. If you need a visa, use the ministry’s links and relevant consular representation. Do not submit documents or payment to a portal merely because it appears in an advertisement.
